Japoński skarbiec Shoso-in w Nara

W dniu 21 lipca 756r., w 49-ym dniu* po śmierci cesarza Shomu 聖武天皇 (701 - 756 r.) - cesarzowa Komyo przekazała na rzecz świątyni Todai-ji w Narze cały majątek po zmarłym mężu zgromadzony w okresie jego panowania w latach 724 - 749. Kilkaset przedmiotów spisano wówczas szczegółowo w Cesarskim akcie - darowizny.

Umieszczono je później w specjalnie do tego celu wybudowanym budynku - skarbcu Shoso-in** w 760r. o zewnętrznych wymiarach 33m x 9,8m i wysokości ok. 14m. Jego podłogę wyniesiono na palach około 2,7m ponad poziom terenu. Wszystkie zgromadzone przedmioty zachowały się do dnia dzisiejszego mimo licznych pożarów i zniszczeń w ciągu wieków w dawnej stolicy Narze. Konstrukcja ścian budynku skarbca wykonana z drewna cyprysu (styl azekura-zukuri) zapewniała właściwą wentylację w ciągu roku a ponadto rokrocznie w październiku budynek Shosoin uroczyście otwierano i wszystkie zabytki poddawano wietrzeniu, czyszczeniu i ewentualnej reperacji. Następnie skarbiec zamykano i plombowano łącznie z pieczęcią aktualnie panującego cesarza. Wiele z przechowywanych przedmiotów przywieziono w VIII w. z Chin (dynastia Tang) na dwór cesarski w Nara, inne są wytworem japońskich artystów, którzy naśladowali zagraniczne wzorce. Wśród nich znajdują się m.in. meble, wazy, zbroje, tkaniny, dokumenty i mapy, przybory do pisania, monety, gry towarzyskie (Go, Sugoroku poz.130), naczynia kuchenne, klejnoty oraz zbiór 164-ch drewnianych masek do tańca gigaku (poz.718). Obok wyrobów charakterystycznych dla sztuki chińskiej, znajdują się tu także wzory (dotyczące szczególnie tkanin, jedwabnych brokatów i filcowych kobierców) zapożyczone z Persji, Indii, i Azji Środkowej. Do najcenniejszych zabytków w Shoso-in należą wyroby z laki: stoliki, szafy, szkatułki, instrumenty muzyczne (Japonia, Iran, Chiny) (poz.719-738), kufry i pudła do przechowywania zwierciadeł z polerowanego brązu. Wśród narodowych skarbów Shoso-in znajdują się także zwoje sutr, dokumenty i przedmioty rytualnego obrządku związane z religią buddyjską.

W 1962r. wybudowano dwa żelbetowe budynki gdzie przeniesiono zbiory. W nowych budynkach kontrolowany jest stopień wilgotności powietrza zapewniający lepsze warunki dla współczesnego, długoterminowego magazynowania. Każdego roku mała wyselekcjonowana część kolekcji Shoso-in jest udostępniana publiczności na wystawach w Narodowym Muzeum w Nara.
W 2004r. odbyła się kolejna, 56-a wystawa eksponatów.

* według wierzeń buddyjskich w 49-m dniu po śmierci rostrzyga się dalszy los zmarłego, albo osiąga on stan Buddy albo przygotowuje się do kolejnego wcielenia w którymś ze światów.
** Shoso-in oznacza dosłownie: budynek - skarbiec długowiecznego przechowywania.

Poniżej lista 794-ch zinwentaryzowanych przedmiotów według angielskiego wydania „Sho-so-In Tanabetsu Mokuroku” opublikowanego w 1951r i aktualizowanego w 1955r. przez Japan Imperial Agency. Uzupełnienie małym drukiem zostało dokonane przez Reiji Yamashina, 6.08.2003r. Na liście pominięto bibliotekę zawierającą ok.5 tys. zwojów byddyjskich sutr włączonych do skarbca Shoso-in w 1894r., wiele fragmentów dokumentów archiwalnych oraz ok.100tys. fragmentów zbioru tkanin. Nazwy przedmiotów podano dużą czcionką.
Główny numer n.p. (1.) jest numerem naklejki umieszczonej na każdej rzeczy. Numer umieszczony na końcu opisu n.p. (NORTH158) jest oficjalnym kodem używanym w Sho-so-In Office, Nara (1950r.).

One s case (14cm) and handle is carved greem stained ivory (birds, flowers, and landscape pattern), and decorated with siver-gilt metalwork. Another has a rinoceros handle and an ivory case(12.7cm) and decorated with siver-gilt metalwork. Both was atouched to no.26. TOSU is a small knife to erase characters on wood writing slips and for another utility. TOSU was regarded a stationary or a ornament item for 8th century people.
